Four PCAC athletes named Athlete-of-the-Month

The ballots have been cast and selections made as four athletes from the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference have been named Athlete-of-the-Month.  Baylie Dashner, Sabrina Benavides, Michael Ramirez and Alejandro Pimentel will all share the honors for the month of September.

ATHLETES-OF-THE-MONTH (WOMEN)

Baylie Dashner, College of the Desert

Dasher was solid for College of the Desert in indoor volleyball this past month as the Roadrunners went 10-0 in September.  She finished with 135 kills, 54 digs and 16 service aces and currently ranks fourth in the state in kills-per-set.  Dashner had double-digits in kills in nine of 10 matches in September, with a high of 19 against Antelope Valley on September 19.

Sabrina Benavides, Imperial Valley College

Benavides was a workhorse for Imperial Valley this past month, finishing first or second among all PCAC harriers in the three races she ran.  Benavides won the Palomar Invitational on September 7 in a time of 19:31.3, finishing nine seconds ahead of her closest competitor.  She then ran second among PCAC runners at the SoCal Preview in finishing 11th overall with a time of 19:11.0.  Benavidez continued to improve in the third meet of the month when she finished first among community college athletes at the Coyote Challenge, finishing the 5k race in 18:34.8. 

 

ATHLETES-OF-THE-MONTH (MEN)

Michael Ramirez, San Bernardino Valley College

Ramirez was a force for the Wolverines this past month, leading all PCAC runners in every race he ran.  He finished first among PCAC athletes and third among community college harriers at the Redlands Invitational on September 1, finishing the 4-mile course in 19:39.8.  Ramirez then led all PCAC runners at the SoCal Preview on September 14 when finishing third overall in a time of 20:08.5.  He then ran third overall and first among PCAC runners at the Coyote Challenge when he crossed the finish line in 20:35.7.  Ramirez then finished fourth among community college runners at the Stanford Invitation in finishing the 8k race in 26:41.9. 

Alejandro Pimentel, College of the Desert

Pimentel was a big part of the success for Desert in September, helping the Roadrunners finish 3-1-3.  He scored seven goals in September, scoring in 5-of-7 games that COD played.  Pimentel had multiple goals against both Moorpark (W, 3-0) and Southwestern (T, 2-2) and is currently tied for ninth in the state in goals-scored (9).  With Pimentel's contributions, Desert is currently in second place in the PCAC standings, which is the highest they have been since joining the conference.
