Four earn PCAC Athletes-of-the-Month for December

With only basketball competing during the month of December, ballers from San Diego Mesa College, San Bernardino Valley College and San Diego City College have been selected as the Pacific Coast Athletic Coast Conference Athletes-of-the-Month.  Breeana Gafare and Yusra Gharram were selected on the women's side with both Roman Silva and Aren Thomas earning the award for the men.

ATHLETES-OF-THE-MONTH (MEN)

Aren Thomas, San Diego Mesa College (basketball)

Thomas had a big December for San Diego Mesa, scoring 20-or-more points in 4-of-10 games.  He averaged 16.3 points-per-game for the month, also dishing out 41 assists while collecting 21 rebounds.  Thomas (5'10 - Dekaney HS, TX) scored a season-high of 25 points against Copper Mountain College on December 14 and recorded a season-best nine assists against West Hills College on December 8.

Roman Silva, San Bernardino Valley College (basketball)

In six games in December, Silva (7'1 - Diamond Ranch HS) averaged 14.6 points and 6.8 rebounds-per-game for the month.  In addition, he also had 12 blocked shots in December.  Silva's month was highlighted by a 22 point, eight rebound. four block performance against Imperial Valley College on December 22.  He scored in double-figures in 5-of-6 games during December, shooting 56% from the field.

 

ATHLETES-OF-THE-MONTH (WOMEN)

Breeana Gafare, San Diego City College (basketball)

Gafare helped lead the Knights to three wins in five games during December by averaging 16.6 points, 6.6 rebounds, 5.4 assists, and 5.2 steals.

The three wins for the Knights were by an average of 34.3 points with the largest being an 81-31 home win over Los Angeles Southwest, a game in which Gafare poured in 29 points to go with six rebounds, five assists, and six steals. It was her second-highest scoring output of the season.

Gafare (5'6 - Hilltop HS) also had 11 points, five assists and six steals in a 71-49 win over Compton on December 17, and finished with 12 points, six rebounds, five assists, and six steals in an 81-50 win over Porterville on December 18.

Yusra Gharram, San Diego Mesa College (basketball)

Gharram had a solid December when she averaged 16.8 points, 15.4 rebounds and 2.4 blocks-per-game for the Olympians.   Her biggest performance of the month came against Copper Mountain College (Dec. 5) when she totaled 22 points and 18 rebounds.  Gharram (6'3 - Mission Bay HS) is averaging 18.3 points and 13.6 rebounds-per-game for the year and currently leads the Olympians in scoring, rebounds and blocked shots.
