It is with great regret that the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference announces the passing of Tom Saxe, former Sports Information Director at Palomar College. Saxe passed away on Tuesday at his home in Vista.
Saxe began his career at Palomar College in the 60's and over the decades functioned in multiple roles, including sports information director, statistician and webmaster. In addition to his roles at Palomar, he worked at various news outlets such as the Oceanside Blade-Tribune, the Escondido Times-Advocate, the North County Times, the Union-Tribune and the Vista Press as a sportswriter and sports editor. Saxe was also the sports information director for the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference for a number of years, promoting athletes and programs from all of the schools in the PCAC.
"Tom committed his life –not his professional life—but his total life, to what he considered to be his family, the Palomar College Athletic Department," Palomar Athletics Director Scott Cathcart said. "His long hours of dedicated effort benefitted literally thousands of individual student athletes and brought positive recognition and notoriety to our coaches and teams regionally, state-wide and even on the national stage."
Saxe was honored as the first inductee into the Palomar College Athletic Hall of Fame, which was initiated in 2012 and currently includes no fewer than 92 members.
Saxe is survived by three cousins, including Sharon Medley, who, with her husband Dan, resides in Nampa, Idaho and Sharon's sisters, Sandra Turk and Susan Fitzpatrick, both of whom reside in Ceres, California.
