Comets take down Jags; finish first round

SAN MARCOS, CA (10/13/2023) -- Palomar College evened their record Friday night with a 3-1 victory over Southwestern College. 

The Jaguars caught the Comets on their heels in set one, taking it 25-22, but the Comets bounced back big in the second set. The Comets won 25-9, the lowest amount of points they've allowed this season, before taking sets three and four 25-21 and 25-16, respectively, to win the match.

Freshman Janell Spires continues to be unstoppable as she finished 13 kills, hitting .320%, and 12 digs. Freshman Sonsi Jarvis ended the night hitting .345% with 12 kills. Jarvis was a serving machine for the Comets in their second set as she served for 11 total points to get the lead back for the Comets. Sophomore setter Mayara Swillens finished with 34 assists and 10 digs. Freshman Delina Becker totaled 10 kills and four aces. 

Palomar improves to 8-8 overall and 6-2 in conference. They finish round one of conference play in third place. The Comets will travel to MiraCosta College on Wednesday night for a 6 p.m. first serve.
