L.A. Mission College Women's Volleyball Team Suffers First Loss of the Season Against Grossmont

San Jacinto, August 30, 2023 – The Eagles of L.A. Mission College suffered their first defeat of the season at the hands of Grossmont, losing in straight sets 3-0 (25-18, 25-17, 25-22) in a match that was played at San Jacinto.

Grossmont, showing their dominant form early, won the first two sets. The Eagles, however, showed signs of resilience in the third set, pushing Grossmont to a closer 25-22 finish yet still falling short.

Alyson Guise was the standout player for Grossmont, putting up 8 kills from 18 attempts with a .333 hitting percentage. Guise also contributed to the team's defense with 4 blocks, amassing a total of 11 points. Kate Beezer and Amanda Pena also made their mark, each racking up 7.5 points for the team. Chelsee Trendler showcased her versatility with 18 assists and 5.5 points.

On the other side of the net, Jaya Davison was a beacon of hope for the Eagles, leading the charge with 10 kills. However, a negative hitting percentage of -.108 highlighted some of the issues she faced during the match. Irene Martinez and Temple Vasquez followed, contributing 5.5 and 6.5 points respectively for the Eagles. Taylor Boone, with 25 assists, tried her best to orchestrate the offense for L.A. Mission.

Errors played a part in L.A. Mission's downfall, with the team accumulating more errors (28) than kills (27). These mistakes, combined with Grossmont's disciplined play and powerful attacks, ensured that the Eagles couldn't find their rhythm throughout the match.

Coach's view after the match hinted at some of the areas L.A. Mission needs to work on, especially in reducing their errors. But there were also praises for the team's fighting spirit, especially in the third set, where they nearly staged a comeback.

With this loss, L.A. Mission College will be looking to bounce back in their next game. They've showcased glimpses of brilliance earlier in the season, and fans remain hopeful that the team can learn from this setback and continue their quest for success.

Grossmont, on the other hand, will be buoyed by their victory and will be looking to continue their momentum as they progress through the season.
