Eagle Volleyball Splits a Pair of Home Matches

The MSJC volleyball team hosted both Grossmont College and LA Mission College on Wednesday, the Eagles came away 1-1 on the day.

The Eagles first match of the day was against Grossmont and the team struggled with some passing issues early on and ended up losing in straight sets; 16-25, 14, 25, and 20-25.  Mckenna Conklin had a team high 7 kills in the match, Brooklynn Thomas and Megan Gajda both had 6.  Trysta Vincelli led the defensive effort with 11 digs Brooklyn Jimenez had 10.  Vincelli collected 12 assists in the loss while Kalia Anady dished out 6.

MSJC bounced back in the second match of the day to defeat LA Mission in four sets.  The Eagles won the opening set 25-19, but Mission came back to win the second by the same score.  MSJC took a tight third set 25-22 and then put the match away in the fourth with a dominating 25-9 win.  Conklin again led the way with 12 kills, Gajda had 10 and Carley Kruse knocked down 8.  The Eagle defense combined for 16 block assists in the match led by 6 from Hailey Frary, Gajda picked up a match best 14 digs while Jimenez had 13.  Vincelli was credited with 21 assists and Anady with 11.

The Eagles now stand at 2-3 on the season and are right back in action on Friday when they host both Palomar and Santiago Canyon on the San Jacinto Campus.  MSJC opens the day at 11 am when they take on Santiago Canyon, the Eagles are scheduled to play Palomar at 4 pm.
