Coyotes serve up loss against Jaguars

Rancho San Diego

Cuyamaca College Women's Volleyball hosted their cross-town rival Southwestern Friday night in front of a lively crowd of onlookers. Coming off a tough loss against the number two ranked team in the state, San Diego Mesa, the Lady Coyotes entered the match with much optimism. The lesson's learned from play against Mesa was hoped to be a springboard to better play against conference rivals. Unfortunately, from the opening minutes of the match, the Coyotes looked flat and didn't have the same intensity seen only days before.

The Coyotes showed brilliance though, striker Izzy Woodhams found her spots and delivered consistently. However, the Jaguars made their adjustments which should have opened the door for another Cuyamaca striker to step up. However, the Coyotes have struggled early this season with injuries and have been grounded as a result. Nevertheless, the Coyotes battle each set and made the Jaguars work for each point and set. Libero Carissa Peralta commanded the field with dig after dig. Erin Geary, recovering from injury, saw increase minutes and was able to set up Izzy for several spectacular kills.

"We played to their level and not ours. We are so much better than we played. Our biggest issue is we gave up points on the serve. Our goal this week is to work on our serves and minimize the errors and points given. When you look at it, we loss each game in the sets by only a few points, and those bad serves were the difference." - Izzy Woodhams

The Lady Coyotes next face Imperial Valley College. The team feel they'll be ready for the challenge and will approach the game as a 'reset' to the season. Game time starts this Wednesday at 6:00pm in the Cuyamaca Coyote Den.
