SBVC Makes Quick Work of Imperial Valley

It didn't take long for the San Bernardino Valley College women's volleyball team to get Friday night's large crowd into the mood for a victory.

The Wolverines scored the game's first six points - including three consecutive aces from Annika Ferreras - and rolled from there to beat Imperial Valley College 25-3, 25-12, 25-15 in front of a crowd that included local middle and high school volleyball players.

SBVC converted on half of its 12 attempts in the first set, as Imperial Valley struggled with its attack. Things didn't get much better in the next two sets, as the Wolverines were able to convert on nearly 40 percent of its attacks in the game. The Wolverines did a lot of damage from the service line as well, getting credited with 15 aces in the game, with Ferreras finishing and Destiney Parker each finishing with four.

Loleaulelei Mamea led the way for SBVC with 13 kills, while sister Manaia Mamea added eight more.

SBVC opens Inland Empire Athletic Conference play at 5 p.m. Wednesday at home against Cerro Coso College.
