Last year, the Pasadena City College women's volleyball team had a perplexing run in conference play resulting in a surprising fourth place finish (7-5). With a veteran sophomore group returning, the Lancers want to get back into contender mode in the South Coast Conference and opened with a sweep at Los Angeles Harbor, 25-7, 25-14, 25-12, on Wednesday night.

The state #10-ranked Lancers (8-3 overall) had a 6-match win streak halted by #7 Grossmont on Tuesday (25-15, 25-15, 25-23), but bounced back by serving a season-high 17 aces in defeating the Seahawks.

Chayse Hoon spun six of those aces while Makayla Chiechi had three. PCC head coach Mike Terrill used 14 players with Karsyn Gwinnup tallying seven kills (hit .462), Katie Carius five kills (only nine attempts, .556), and Emma Yogan's lone set producing five kills (.571) and five digs.

Kamea Vongfak set nine assists and served two aces, Shaylee Ungos placed nine assists, Ariana Pedroza scored two kills and three block assists, Ashley Marrone landed five kills, Reese Roper three kills and two aces, and Lindsay Delgadillo added two kills and five set assists.

On Friday, Sept. 15, the Lancers play at always tough Rio Hondo College. First serve is 6 p.m.
