New Era of SAC Volleyball Begins with 3-0 Sweep of Southwestern

SANTA ANA, Calif. - A new era of Santa Ana College volleyball began on Friday night as the Dons defeated Southwestern College 3-0 (25-16, 25-15, 25-23) to give new Head Coach Myriah Kunipo-Aguirre the first win of her career. 

It was a relatively smooth night for SAC as they held a firm grip on the first two sets before using a late comeback in the third to secure the win. 

Madeline Castillo had an impressive start to her collegiate career with 29 assists for the Dons. The freshman out of Corona looked comfortable running the offense while also adding six digs, two block assists and a solo block. 

Sophomore outside hitter Karen Salazar led the Dons in kills with 10 but showed her whole skill set with six digs, three service aces and an assist. Sophomore middle blocker Roxanne Costello made her SAC debut with nine kills on just 10 attempts. The standout from Centennial High also collected an ace, block assists and a solo block. 

Taylor Vagana and Camille Birrer posted five kills each and accounted for 10 digs, three aces and an assist.

The Dons will be back in action on Wednesday, August 30th to face Cerritos College on the road at 6:00 p.m.
