Comets back in win column

SAN MARCOS, CA (9/13/2023) -- The Comets snapped their losing streak on Wednesday night with a 3-1 win over Santa Ana College. 

Palomar and Santa Ana battled in set one, but the Comets came out on top with a 28-26 win. The Dons leveled the score with a 25-16 set two win, but the Comets responded with a 25-18 and 25-17 set three and four score.

Freshman Janell Spires, a spark off the bench for the Comets, led the team with 15 kills and 18 digs. Sophomore libero Bailey Prieto finished with 12 digs and four assists. Setters Mayara Swillens and Kylana Madayag split the setting duties and Swillens finished with 18 assists and Madayag had 15. Sophomore Hope Ihem set up camp in the middle totaling six blocks on the net to keep the Dons at bay. 

Palomar improves to 2-6 and will open conference play against MiraCosta College on Friday night in the Dome. First serve is scheduled for 5 p.m.
