MSJC Volleyball Wins Two Home Matches

The MSJC women's volleyball team won a pair of matches on Friday at home as they swept Santiago Canyon and had a thrilling five set comeback win over Palomar.

The Eagles opened the day with an easy win over Santiago Canyon taking the match by scores of 25-12, 25-12, and 25-17.  MSJC used a balanced offense as six players had between 4 and 7 kills in the match led by 7 from Megan GajdaMckenna Conklin added 6 while both Hailey Frary and Carley Kruse had 5 each, Brooklynn Thomas and Josephine Springer both knocked down 4 kills in the win.  Trysta Vincelli passed out 22 assists and Kalia Anady added 10.  Gajda picked up a team best 7 digs and Thomas added 3 block assists.

In the second match of the day the Eagles fell behind early as they lost the opening set to Palomar 21-25.  The Comets also took the second set 13-25 to put the Eagles backs against the wall.  MSJC fought back to win the third set 25-20 and then dominated the fourth 25-13 to force a fifth and deciding set.  In the fifth MSJC jumped out to an early lead and then held on for a 15-13 victory.  Conklin had a team high 21 kills in the victory while Thomas added 13 and Kruse 12.  Frary led the defensive effort in the middle with 6 block assists, Lynsie Arnold and Anady tied for team high honors with 10 digs each.

The Eagles improved to 4-3 with the two victories and now have a very busy week as they play five times.  MSJC will travel to San Diego City on Tuesday for a 5 pm match, they will host Mt. SAC in a home match Wednesday.  The Eagles will conclude the week with a match at Riverside on Friday and two at LA Mission on Saturday where they will play both Mission and Porterville.
