Miramar's Sotoa and Repetti win Individual Championship

MURRIETA, CA (4/26/2024) -- San Diego Miramar College's Jaalyn Sotoa-Studebing and Natalie Repetti are this season's PCAC Beach Volleyball Individual Pairs Champions after defeating Palomar College's Janell Spires and Sonsi Jarvis.

As the No. 6 seed, Sotoa and Repetti found themselves down 7-14 in the championship against 5th-seeded Spires and Jarvis, but overcame the deficit and rallied to take the first set 21-19. The second set was tight, with lead change after lead change, which is exactly what you expect in a championship match. After a much-needed timeout, the duo were victorious with a stellar 21-17 victory to clinch the championship.

Sotoa and Repetti had two byes to start the single-elimination tournament. They finally had their opponent in No. 11 Langarcia and Phyakeo from Grossmont College. The pair took care of business in their only match of the day to advance to Friday's Finals. They then met their own teammates in No. 3 Mia Fox and Zaria Henderson and upset the Jets to face No. 10 Elle Harrity and Jaiden Mistelksi from MiraCosta College in the semifinals.

Spires and Jarvis were given the No. 5 seed and had no easy task to make the Finals. They started their tournament against No. 12 Samdrea Hsu and Julia Kallen from Miramar and won to advance to day two. They then met No. 4 Emily Eltrich and Victoria Goff from San Diego Mesa College. In a tough battle, the two Comets had to face the PCAC Duo of the Year in No. 1 Myah Gomez and Kailyn Jager, whom the Comets had upset just the week before. They toppled the top seed to advance to the Finals to face Sotoa and Repetti.
