San Bernardino Valley picked to defend PCAC title

San Bernardino Valley College opens the 2018 men's soccer season at Taft College on August 28, looking for a third straight Pacific Coast Athletic Conference (PCAC) title after winning the conference title in both 2016 and 2017.  The PCAC sports information directors think the trend will continue, picking San Bernardino Valley College in what looks like a tight race this fall.

San Bernardino Valley edged out both Cuyamaca College and Southwestern College a season ago on the pitch in what turned out to be a very competitive season.  The Wolverines finished 10-4-2 in the PCAC and 12-9-2 overall, falling in the opening round of the playoffs at Santa Barbara City College (0-2).

SBVC gets a bit of a boost this season as it welcomes back two players from the 2016 conference title team as well as a number of key components from last season's squad.  Hugo Herrera (D) and Juan Luna (F) return from the 2016 team while Fidel Raya (D) and Andrew Quiroz (M) are back from the 2017 team, giving the Wolverines experience at all levels on the field.

San Bernardino Valley was picked first by 6-of-7 sports information directors in the conference, collecting 62 of the possible 63 points in the 9-team conference.  A solid battle for second place took place in the voting, with Southwestern College edging out both Cuyamaca College and MiraCosta College.  Southwestern picked up the final first place vote, with three others picking them to finish in second place.  The Jaguars open the season at Compton on August 28.
