Mesa grabs SoCal Preview title

The San Diego Mesa men's cross country team captured the title at the SoCal Preview Meet on Friday in Cerritos.  The Olympians finished in a tie for first place with El Camino College, beating the Warriors in a tiebreaker.

Mesa finished 4-14-16-23-33 in the team competition, besting a talented field that featured some of the top teams in the state.  Maybe more importantly, they finished ahead of both Glendale College and American River College, who both finished ahead of the Olympians last week at the Fresno Invitational.

Mesa was led by freshman Isaiah Labra, who finished fourth overall by crossing the finish line of the 4-mile trek in 20:10.6.  Labra was just 9.1 seconds off the pace set by El Camino's Carson Bix.

Mesa had three other top-25 finishers in Stefen Rasmuson (14th), Bobby Brana (16th) and Jose Garcia (23rd).

Other Pacific Coast Athletic Conference programs at the meet included San Bernardino Valley (6th), Palomar (25th), Desert (27th), Southwestern (28th) and Imperial Valley (no team score).

Mesa will compete again next Saturday at the PCAC Preview in Sa Bernardino.  Meet time is scheduled for 8:00 AM at Cal State San Bernardino.
