Mesa falls in state finals

The San Diego Mesa women's soccer team finished the season with a 2-0 loss in the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) state championship game on Sunday afternoon in Cupertino, California.  The Olympians finished the season 22-2-2.

Mesa had its best run in program history in 2019, winning the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference title and advancing all the way to the state finals.  The Olympians defeated Citrus College, Cerritos College, San Bernardino Valley College and Lake Tahoe College in the playoffs before coming up short against perennial power Santiago Canyon College in the finals.

Mesa and Santiago Canyon were scoreless through the first half of the finals on Sunday before SCC broke through with two goals in a 15-minute span in the second half.  The two goals proved to be all the Hawks would need as they won their fourth state title and second in a row at the CCCAA Finals.
