Grossmont looking to defend PCAC title

The Grossmont women's tennis team has won five straight Pacific Coast Athletic Conference titles and hopes to keep the streak going in 2019.  The Griffins opened the season with a non-conference win at Saddleback on Tuesday.

Grossmont has been a force in the PCAC in recent years, winning five straight PCAC titles and going 58-4 in the process.  The Griffins are led by sophomore Katrinna Grasso, who made it to the state tournament in Ojai last season before falling in singles play in the round of 64 and making it to the round of 32 in doubles play.

Grasso and the Griffins jumped out to a 2-1 lead in doubles play on Tuesday, winning at both No. 1 doubles and No. 3 doubles.  Grasso teamed with Alycia Franklin for an 8-3 win at No. 1 doubles while Jillian Kan and Amy Linquist were 8-0 winners at No. 3 doubles.  Both Franklin and Kan would become two-time winners on Tuesday, also winning singles matches.

Two other PCAC programs were in action on opening week, with both San Diego City College and Southwestern College falling to Riverside (0-9).  The rest of the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference programs are scheduled to start this week with the exception of Cuyamaca College, who is scheduled to start later in February.

Grossmont captured the 2018 title, going 16-5 overall and 14-0 in PCAC play.  The Griffins finished two games ahead of San Diego City and five games ahead of both College of the Desert and Imperial Valley College.
