Grossmont falls in state semis

The Grossmont women's volleyball team finished up the season by falling to Feather River College, 3-2, in the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) state semi-finals on Saturday in Chula Vista. The Griffins finished the season 27-4 overall.

The CCCAA Women's Volleyball State Championship tournament featured exciting matches at Southwestern College over the weekend. The first semifinal was no different as South No. 2 Grossmont returned a 0-2 set deficit to North top-seed Feather River College to hang on through all five sets. Feather River ultimately grabbed the win against Grossmont (25-18, 28-26, 22-25, 22-25, 15-11) to move forward in the tournament and capture the state title against Irvine Valley Sunday.

Haley Morton topped the charts with 51 assists in the match against Feather River. Morton's highest average assist per game is 51.4, and totaled 1,095 this season. Likewise, Shaney Lipscomb had a career high against Feather River in kills with 23-12-52 (K-E-TA).

Libero Kourtney Hitt also reached her record high in digs (19) against Feather River. Middle hitter Brooklyn Anderson totaled five blocks in Saturday's semfinal.

Grossmont finshed 14-2 in the Pacific Coast Conference (.875%) and reclaimed the conference title since 2017 (eight year consecutive run from 2010, broken by SD Mesa in 2018). Likewise conference rival San Diego Mesa finished conference 14-2 and also share the championship this fall.
