Mesa, MiraCosta, Grossmont headline PCAC opening weekend

SAN DIEGO, CA (9/19/2022) -- Women's volleyball conference play is officially underway as of Friday. Eight of the nine teams played and San Diego Mesa (vs. Cuyamaca), MiraCosta (vs. Southwestern), Grossmont (vs. Palomar) and San Diego City (vs. Imperial Valley) came out on top of their matches. 

San Diego Mesa has been rolling through their pre-conference schedule, finishing up 9-1 and earning the No. 4 spot in the latest CCCWVCA poll. The Olympians defeated Cuyamaca 3-0 (25-7, 25-12, 25-10) en route to their first PCAC win. Isabelle Bakken and Sophia Jarosz both had seven kills on 14 and 16 swings, respectively. Kailia Keovilaysane finished the night with eight digs, while Hailey Cordon finished with seven. Setters Isabella Restani and Victoria Goff both had 17 assists.

MiraCosta has also been dominant through the first part of their season, finishing up 6-3 and earning the No.12 spot in the state in the latest poll. Against Southwestern on Friday night, Jackie Gracey was a dominant force at the net racking up 21 kills on 42 swings as the Spartans cruised past the Jaguars 3-1 (25-22, 25-18, 23-25, 25-12). Kailyn Jager, the conference leader in kills and digs, pitched in 10 kills. Riley Komo finished with 19 digs, a team-high on the night. Setter Summer Hoslett dished out 38 assists. 

The third and final team ranked in the state for the PCAC is Grossmont who comes in at No. 16 after finishing up their early season schedule 5-3. The Griffins had no problem facing the Palomar Comets on Friday night as they posted a 3-0 sweep (25-18, 25-10, 25-21). Madi Bogle led all Griffins with 10 kills and 17 digs. Setter Lauren Dumo racked up 32 assists to go along with 12 digs. 

San Diego City picked up their second win of the season as they took care of Imperial Valley 3-0 (25-23, 25-22, 25-17). Alexis Mines totaled 16 kills on 26 swings to lead the Knights, while Ashley Davies finished with 13 kills and 12 digs. Ryla Manalang totaled 23 assists at setter for the Knights.
