Four earn February AOM

With spring sports kicking into high gear in February, four different programs were represented in the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference athlete-of-the-month as stars from Grossmont College, San Diego City College, Palomar College and Southwestern College were selected. 

Grossmont's Darien Cossio and San Diego City's Nikita Speshilov were selected as the PCAC Male Athlete-of-the-Month while Palomar's Alyssa Domingo and Southwestern's Samantha Green were selected as the PCAC Female Athlete-of-the-Month. 

ATHLETE-OF-THE-MONTH (MEN)

Darien Cossio, Grossmont, (Baseball)

Cossio had a .408 batting average for the month of February, recording 20 hits, four doubles, one triple and 10 RBI.  He had seven multiple-hit games during the month with a .531 on-base percentage.  Cossio's biggest game came against Palomar when he went 4-for-4 with a walk and recorded five putouts in the field.

Nikita Speshilov, San Diego City (Men's Tennis)

Speshilov was a perfect 9-0 in both singles and doubles during February as he helped the Knights to an undefeated 6-0 team record.  Speshilov started the season by defeating non-conference #1's from Riverside, Orange Coast, and Saddleback.  Speshilov then captured the singles #1 flight championship, and doubles #2 title with partner Colin Palmer, at the Modesto tournament, where the Knights placed 2nd as a team.  He then carried his hot streak into PCAC competition, leading the Knights to victories over Imperial Valley, Palomar, and Grossmont to end the month.


ATHLETE-OF-THE-MONTH (WOMEN)

Alyssa Domingo, Palomar (Softball)

Domingo, a freshman pitcher from Westview High School, appeared in every game except one for Palomar in February. She currently leads the Pacific Coast Conference in strikeouts and earned run average, 39 and 1.80, respectively, and has five wins on the season. She has a season-high of nine strikeouts so far, coming against Antelope Valley. The freshman pitcher also hits for the Comets and recorded her first career triple against Citrus College on Feb. 8 as she finished 2-3 with an RBI. She also was 1-3 against Fullerton College and 2-4 against Riverside City College.

Samantha Green, Southwestern (Softball)

Green batted .667 for the month of February, finishing 22-for-33 at the plate.  She hit safely in 9-of-10 games, hitting three home runs with 11 RBI.  Green had a team-high .711 on-base percentage for the month, with eight multiple-hit games.  He biggest performance came against Chaffey College when she was 4-for-4 with a home run and three RBI, hitting for the cycle.
