SAN DIEGO, CA (10/31/2022) -- MiraCosta College's George Silva and Southwestern College's Natalia Tello have been awarded this week's Athletes of the Week.

Silva and the Spartans are leading the conference. Last week they faced North County rival Palomar College in a must-win match to hold onto first place. Silva scored the game-winning goal in that match as the Spartans won 1-0. On Friday they faced San Diego Mesa College and won 4-1 as Silva once again scored the game-winning goal. Those were the sophomore captain's first goals of the season. 

Tello, an outside hitter for Southwestern, recorded big numbers for the Jaguars. Against No. 6 ranked San Diego Mesa College, she recorded 12 kills, one ace and seven digs. On Friday, they faced No. 5 Grossmont College and she had 14 kills, two aces, one block and 11 digs. Both of these were three-set losses for the Jags but Nat shined in both matches for a total of 26 kills, three aces, one block and 18 digs for the week.
