Danso with the defense, Carrasco with the offense

SAN DIEGO, CA (1/30/2023) -- Southwestern College's Jason Danso proved that you don't have to be the highest-scoring player on the court to make a difference last week. In contrast, Imperial Valley College's Monique Carrasco has been the state's leading scorer all season.

Danso had himself a game against Grossmont College as the Jaguars edged the Griffins 90-89 on Friday night to stay in the win column. He totaled 10 rebounds, all defensive, and 13 assists to help lift the Jaguars to a third-place tie with Palomar College in the standings. That was his sixth double-digit assist game this season. On Wednesday, Danso and the Jags faced Imperial Valley College and Danso walked away with 10 points, eight assists and five rebounds.

Carrasco has been stealthy all season. As the state's leading scorer, Carrasco has helped lead Imperial Valley to one of their best seasons in recent years. Imperial Valley is playing with something to prove at 14-6 overall and in third place in the standings. Last week, Carrasco scored a total of 61 points, 30 against San Diego City College and 31 against Cuyamaca College. She totaled six rebounds and five assists in the two games.

Southwestern College will face San Diego Miramar College, San Diego City College and MiraCosta College this week. Imperial Valley will face Southwestern College and Grossmont College.
