Agnew and Hart get it done on the big stage

SAN DIEGO, CA (5/8/2023) -- Grossmont College's Skyler Agnew and Palomar College's Emma Hart have been named this week's Athletes of the Week for their stellar performances in the postseason last week.

Angew, an infielder on the Griffins baseball team, came up big in their sweep of defending state champions Riverside City College. Agnew went 4-8 in the two games recording three doubles and a home run for five RBI. The Griffins pulled off the upset to knock the No. 3 seeded Tigers out of the playoffs. The Griffins trailed 1-0 after one in game one, but Agnew changed that with one swing that sent the ball over the fence to even the score. The Griffins never trailed again as they erupted for a 14-3 game one win. Agnew had a one-run double in the fifth inning to extend the Griffins lead to two. That run would eventually be the final one scored as the Griffins took it 4-2 and complete the sweep.

Hart was on fire at the 3C2A Swimming and Diving State Championships. During the prelims on Friday morning, Hart broke the state record (55.38) in the 100 Fly, and then broke it again (54.82) en route to her first state title. On Saturday she swam the 200 Fly and once again broke the record (2:03.76) to win her second title in as many days. Hart had broken a conference record at the PCAC Championships two weeks ago in the 100 Fly as well.
