SAN DIEGO, CA (12/18/2023) -- Men's basketball opened conference play last week while the women continued with nonconference games and tournaments. San Diego Miramar College's Charlie Gehler and Imperial Valley College's Amy Riley both stood out during the week, earning them this week's Athletes of the Week.

In two games, Gehler finished with 44 total points, including a season-best 8-13 in the field against Palomar College Friday night. He knocked down four threes in the game, tying his season-high. Against San Diego Mesa College on Wednesday night, he went 6-10 at the charity stripe to finish with 21 points. On the defensive side of the ball, Gehler totaled 11 rebounds and finished with seven assists in the two games. He recorded four steals against Mesa and one block in each game.

Riley and the rest of the Imperial Valley squad competed in three games last week. She scored double-digits in two games, 20 against College of the Desert and 15 against Reedley College. She finished with seven against Bakersfield College. Not only was she effective scoring she dominated the glass for IVC, nabbing 23 total rebounds and recorded eight steals. She also finished with two blocks against Desert and one against Reedley.
