Olympians bring home DeVore Trophy

SAN DIEGO, CA (8/27/2024) -- San Diego Mesa College won the 2023-24 Chet DeVore Trophy with a score of 18.61. MiraCosta College finished in second place with a score of 12.16 and Grossmont College finished third with a total of 9.26 points.

Mesa won the trophy behind stellar performances from their volleyball, cross country and track programs. The Olympians brought home a state title in women's indoor volleyball while the men's team was the state runner-up. Their beach team finished in fourth place as a team and their No. 1 pairs (Kailyn Jager/Myah Gomez) won an individual state title. Both of their cross country teams won the conference and had second-place finishes at state. Alexis Noble and Jyden Schmid were in the individual state champions for their respective races. They continued that success in the spring when they both won another conference title. The men's team also had a second-place finish. Kais Kimuli (Shot Put), Sidney Garcia (800M), Kyle Wood (Javelin), Ian Rosen (800M) and a men's relay team were all state champions. They also had three second-place finishers.

MiraCosta's women's soccer team won the conference while men's basketball, men's soccer and beach volleyball had a second place finish. Under a new head coach, their beach volleyball team qualified for the state tournament as a team and ended the season with a third-place finish.
