PCAC Announces March Athletes of the Month

SAN DIEGO, CA (4/9/2025) -- As spring hit full stride in March, student-athletes across the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference (PCAC) rose to the occasion. With standout showings on the track, in the pool, at the plate, and across the net, this month's Athletes of the Month brought intensity, leadership, and championship-level performances.

Men's Track & Field: Ryan Mann (San Diego Mesa College)

Ryan Man sprinted his way to one of the most decorated months in PCAC track and field. He posted a personal best of 10.48 seconds in the 100 meters at the Mark Conover Classic, where he also won the 200 meters (21.40). He was key in Mesa's relay dominance, including a first-place finish in the 4x100 at the Arnie Robinson Invite (40.97) — a new personal best — and anchored several podium finishes across four major meets. His consistency in the 100, 200, and relays makes him one of the conference's most versatile threats.

Women's Track & Field: Brinley Campbell (Cuyamaca College)

Campbell continued her outstanding season with wins in the 100-meter hurdles at three meets, including a blazing personal best of 14.03 at the Cuyamaca Invitational. She showed impressive range, placing 2nd in the 200m (25.68), 3rd in the 400m (1:00.76), and helping her team finish 2nd in the 4x100 relay multiple times. Campbell added a season-best 1:07.17 in the 400H at the Arnie Robinson Invite, proving she's a cornerstone of Cuyamaca's squad.

Baseball:

Leonardo Veliz (Imperial Valley, OF)
Veliz turned heads all month long with a .449 batting average, collecting 22 hits in just 49 at-bats. He piled up extra-base power with five doubles and five triples, added seven RBIs, and swiped two bases. Veliz's ability to produce runs and get on base consistently gave IVC a huge boost at the top of the lineup.

Glen Huggins (Southwestern, P)
On the mound, Huggins was lights-out. In four starts, he went a perfect 4-0, striking out 29 batters while only walking two in 23.0 innings pitched. With a 2.35 ERA, he commanded the zone and anchored Southwestern's rotation through crucial conference matchups.

Softball:

Taylor Armstrong (Palomar College, OF)
Armstrong put up video-game numbers at the plate, batting .600 over 14 games with 27 hits, 19 RBIs, and seven doubles. Her ability to reach base and drive in runs helped Palomar dominate offensively. She also added two stolen bases, showcasing her speed and aggression on the basepaths.

Olivia Anderson (San Diego Mesa College, P)
Anderson was an absolute force in the circle, striking out 70 batters over 49.1 innings with a 3.83 ERA and five complete games. Her most jaw-dropping moments came with 17-strikeout performances against both Southwestern and Grossmont Colleges. With a 5-3 record and a shutout to her name, Anderson proved she's among the top pitchers in the state.

Men's Swim: John Fritz (Palomar College)

Fritz dominated all three PCAC Invites, racking up multiple 1st-place finishes, including personal bests in the 50 Free (23.42) and 100 Breast (1:04.58). He was a triple-winner at PCAC Invite #3, taking gold in the 500 Free, 100 Breast, and 100 IM, helping to lead Palomar's strong team performance throughout the month.

Women's Swim: Sydney Fortune (San Diego Mesa College)

Fortune had a phenomenal March, winning multiple events across all three PCAC Invites. She set personal bests in the 100 Free (54.28), 200 Free (1:59.39), 1000 Free (11:25.23), and 100 IM (1:02.04). Sydney also swept her breaststroke events, further proving her dominance in both sprint and distance races.

Women's Tennis: Anya Villanueva (San Diego City College)

Villanueva was a perfect 4-0 in doubles and went 3-1 in singles play during March. Her standout singles wins came against Mt. San Jacinto and El Camino, including a commanding 6-1, 6-0 victory. In doubles, she led her team to wins over PCAC rivals and SoCal powers, establishing herself as a top competitor in the conference.

Beach Volleyball: Halen Kiefer & Lia Go Soco (San Diego Mesa College)

This dynamic pair went undefeated in PCAC match play in March, dropping only one match — and that was to a four-year powerhouse, Palm Beach State University. Their chemistry, smart shot selection, and aggressive play at the net have made them the team to beat heading into April.

Congratulations to all of our March Athletes of the Month! Their hard work, competitive spirit, and standout performances are what make the PCAC one of the top community college conferences in California.
