Men’s Water Polo Splits Weekend at Dia De Los Muertos Tournament

CHULA VISTA, Calif. --- El Camino College split four matches over the weekend at the Dia De Los Muertos Tournament hosted by Southwestern College in Chula Vista, Calif.

The Warriors went 2-2 at the event although both losses were by a combined two goals.

WARRIORS 15, SAN DIEGO MIRAMAR 9

The Warriors opened the tournament on Friday with a dominating victory over the Jets. Heitor Trefilio scored five times to lead the offense and Marc Bugarin added four goals while Sam Adams had six saves in the cage to score the victory. Bugarin also led the team with three assists with Scott Fujiwara adding two helpers.

GROSSMONT 12, WARRIORS 11

The Warriors were blanked in the fourth quarter and that was the difference in a narrow loss to the Griffins. Bugarin and Tyler Reed led the team with three goals each while Fujiwara dished out five assists in the loss. Adams made nine saves.

WARRIORS 14, CHAFFEY 4

The match was close after one period as the Warriors held a 5-3 advantage through eight minutes. But the offense scored six more times in the second while the defense shut the door on the Panthers, blanking them in the quarter and the Warriors cruised on to win from there.

Bugarin led the charge with six goals while Brayden Sanchez, Klade, and Fujiwara all knotted two goals apiece.

SOUTHWESTERN 16, WARRIORS 15

The Warriors fell behind 7-2 in the first quarter but clawed all the way back to make it a match. They outscored the Jaguars 13-9 in the final three periods but came up just short of completing the comeback.

Bugarin shined again in this match, leading the way with five goals while Trefilio added three. Fujiwara dished out four assists while Reed had three helpers in the loss.

The Warriors will now head to the South Coast Conference championships hosted at Long Beach City College on Friday to wrap up the regular season.
