To make the field in the California Community College Athletic Association men's soccer playoffs is a daunting task, especially for teams in the Southern Region.
A bad result at this time of year may mean the difference between a first round game at home or on the road - or elimination all together.
That's what the San Bernardino Valley College men's soccer team was facing Tuesday night when they took on MiraCosta, in a game that was originally scheduled for Sept. 10, but moved due to the Line Fire. And due to the change in the schedule, the game also served as sophomore night, as the team celebrated its second-year players.
With all that going on, the Wolverines found a way.
Jordan Guerrero knocked home a crossing free kick from Ezekiel Soto in the 72nd minute, as the Wolverines won 1-0, solidifying SBVC's position in the rankings used to determine playoff seeding.
Again, the defense was solid all evening, limiting MiraCosta's chances. And when they did get through, Matthew Guzman was able to make the play. He ended with three saves.
Now, SBVC awaits their final seeding, with the first round scheduled to begin Nov. 20.
