Comets' Remarkable Season Ends in 3C2A Third Round

LONG BEACH, CA (11/30/2024) -- The Palomar College women's volleyball team concluded an extraordinary season after advancing to the third round of the 3C2A State Playoffs. The Comets defeated No. 9 Santa Monica College 3-1 on Tuesday night, marking a significant milestone for the program in their 10th regional playoff appearance since 2000. The victory over the Corsairs was Palomar's first time advancing past the second round since 2008.

In the third round, the Comets faced a tough test against No. 1 Long Beach City College. Despite their relentless effort and competitive play, Palomar fell 3-1 (17-25, 25-21, 17-25, 24-26). Janell Spires finished with 14 kills, while Emma Bambe and Brisa Necochea added six and five, respectively. Defensively, Cadence Young led the team with 20 digs, followed by Spires with 12 and Delina Becker with 10. Bambe also contributed three aces to the team's strong effort.

The Palomar College women's volleyball team had a standout 2024 season, finishing 19-6 overall and making their deepest playoff run in over a decade. Highlights included an eight-match winning streak, victories over tough opponents like Grossmont and Southwestern College, and their first postseason advancement since 2008 after defeating Santa Monica College in the second round of the 3C2A State Playoffs. The team showcased a balanced attack with strong offensive performances from Janell Spires, Emma Bambe, and Brisa Necochea, while Cadence Young anchored the defense with stellar digs throughout the season. Several players earned All-PCAC honors, with Spires also being named to the All-Southern Region Team. This season marked one of the program's best in recent history, demonstrating the team's determination and excellence.
