Comets improve to 2-0 in PCAC play

SAN MARCOS, CA (10/4/2023) -- Palomar College men's water polo advanced to 2-0 in conference play with a 13-7 win over Grossmont College on Wednesday afternoon.

Grossmont got on the board first, but Palomar responded with two goals to take a 2-1 lead into the second quarter. The Comets didn't slow down their attack and outscored the Griffins 10-2 in the second and third quarters. The Griffins scored four goals to the Comets' one in the fourth to make the final score 13-7.

Sophomore TJ Turner was a standout yet again scoring five goals on nine shots. Alex Alvarez and Caleb Hogle each had three goals. Phoenix Schultz had a team-high four assists, while Ian Ritchie had three and Hogle totaled two. Hogle played outstanding defense stealing the ball a total of five times and had one exclusion drawn. Arleigh Williams and goalie Tre Turner each had three steals. Schultz had five total blocks in the game, while Williams and Alvarez each had two.

Tre Turner was a goal-saving machine in the cage. In three quarters, he recorded 16 saves on 19 shots. Mitchell Peyton played the final quarter and had one save on five shots. 

Palomar improves to 6-7-1 overall and 2-0 in PCAC play. They will compete in the Riverside City College tournament this weekend and will back in PCAC action next Wednesday against San Diego Miramar College.
