Comets back in win column with victory over Hawks

SAN MARCOS, CA (9/12/2023) -- The Palomar College Comets found themselves back in the win column after a 3-1 victory over Santiago Canyon College on Tuesday night.

The Comets were controlling the match nicely in the opening 30 minutes of the match, but the Hawks found the net against the run to take an early 1-0 lead. Not letting the goal phase them, the Comets kept control of the ball and continued to get shots off. Finally in the 42nd minute, Arturo Atilano-Gutierrez found the net off an assist from Efren Mendez to tie it up before halftime.

Palomar never let their foot off the gas and continued to push. Alex Vidican scored int he 54th minute off a pass from Lucas Meirelles to take the lead. Their teamwork worked so well, Vidican and Meirelles teamed up again to score the third and final goal for the Comets in the 74th minute.

In the relatively tame match, two Comets received yellow cards, Alexis Venegas and Kevin Barragan.

The Comets improve to 2-1-2 overall and will be back at Minkoff Field on Friday night to face El Camino College under the lights. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
