Comets pickup major non-conference win

LOS ANGELES, CA (9/30/2023) -- Palomar College looked to extend their win streak with a non-conference matchup against LA Valey College and got just that, a 13-11 win over the Monarchs on Saturday morning.

The two teams were locked in a battle. Tied at four heading into the second quarter, the Monarchs scored two to the Comets one. But thanks to a big 5-3 third quarter, the Comets were able to pull away and got the two-point win.

TJ Turner had six goals on the day off 10 shots and recorded two steals. Phoenix Schultz and Caleb Hogle each had two goals, while Ian Ritchie, Arleigh Williams and Brayden Bender each had one. Schultz finished with four steals and one exclusion drawn, while Hogle drew four exclusions and recorded two steals. Cody Lovgren and Williams each had three steals on the day. 

The goalkeeping duties were split on the day. Tre Turner started the game and recorded five saves on 11 shots and Mitchell Peyton finished with five saves on 10 shots.

Palomar improves to 5-7-1 overall and will host Grossmont College on Wednesday for a 3:30 p.m. conference match.
