Spartans Stay Undefeated in Conference, Finish Grossmont in Four

Megan Jo Martin and Sarah Campo-Sanchez play volleyball against Cuyamaca College.

After beating their cross-town rival, Palomar College, who was featured in the state ranking, the MiraCosta women's volleyball team upended the Grossmont Griffins, who were ranked 8th in the state and 3rd in the South.  The Spartans won three out of the four games, making impressive plays in closely contested endings.  The final scores, 25-21, 18-25, 25-23 and 26-24 highlights the strong play MiraCosta demonstrated against one of the best teams in the state.  With the win the Spartans remain undefeated in conference play with a perfect 3-0.

Daysha Halbert led the way with 17 kills hitting .417.  Sarah Campo-Sanchez and Alexis Jones both added seven kills.  Tori Tingum and Feagaiga Naotala also had key points in the big win.  Freshman setter Megan Jo Martin had a standout game with 27 assists and 21 digs.

The Spartan's serves were on point all night, with nine aces, three by Halbert.

MiraCosta defensive play at the net was a key in their success.  Campo-Sanchez, Jones and Tingum made large impacts blocking the Grossmont attack.
