The Olympians concluded the season opener with mixed results, securing victories against Mt. San Antonio College and College of the Desert, but falling short against Arizona Christian, Hope International, and MiraCosta College.

Despite the results, head coach Kim Lester praised the team's overall competitiveness. "We played well during the first day of competition," Lester remarked. "Our new players performed well and competed against Mt. San Antonio College, and we faced a very talented Arizona Christian team."

The team had some challenges leading up to the opener, including a bout of the flu and only having seven days of practice.

On the second day of competition, the Olympians fell 1-4 to a strong Hope International team. The team rebounded by defeating College of the Desert 4-1. In the final match of the day, they narrowly lost to MiraCosta College 2-3.

"We took care of business against College of the Desert and played well against Hope International," added Lester. "The conditions were tough, playing in strong winds. The team did fight, which is what we were looking for, and it was a valuable learning experience, especially for those who haven't played in such conditions."

The final match of the day against MiraCosta College featured one of the tournament's best matches. The newly-formed duo of Ami Lagrimas and Halen Kiefer battled back after dropping the first set 12-21, winning the next two sets 21-16, 21-19.

The team provided a brief glimpse of what they are capable of, and the coaching staff was pleased with the effort.  One aspect of the team that the coaches noticed is their size and physicality, especially at the top of the line-up, which will create strong offensive performances. At this point in the season, it's all about gaining experience, and if they execute, should be another successful season.

The team will have another opportunity to face Hope International on Friday, January 31st, at Grossmont College, with the match scheduled to start at 9:00 a.m.
