Competing just one day of the San Diego Mesa Tournament, the Cerritos College men's water polo team registered a pair of wins on Friday. First, the Falcons posted a 20-10 win over the San Diego State University Club team and followed that with a 20-11 win over the host Olympians. Next Friday, the team will host a mini-tournament and face both Citrus College (9:00 a.m.) and Ventura College (2:15 p.m.).

Cerritos vs. San Diego State Club: It was early in the second quarter before the Falcons started to pull away from the Aztecs, as they turned a 3-3 game into a 10-3 advantage after scoring the next seven goals. Three goals in a minute started the seven-goal rally, with sophomore Allan Jimenez (Schurr HS) registering two of them, while he added a third goal in the third quarter. Sophomore Kobe Hurtado (Cerritos HS) ended the first half with a goal and then opened the second half with another goal. The Falcons scored 12 of their 20 goals in the second half.

Jimenez, Hurtado, Jordan Rodriguez (Downey HS) and Johan Gayton (Downey HS) all scored three times for Cerritos in the win, while Jacob Colon (Schurr HS) assisted on three of the team's goals. The Falcons scored their 20 goals on 36 shots. Freshman goalkeeper Henry De Luna Pena (Baldwin Park HS) played the first three quarters and made eight saves to earn the win.

Cerritos vs. San Diego Mesa: Just like in their first game of the day, it took the Falcons a little while to get settled in, as they scored six times in the second period to open a 10-5 lead at intermission. A four-goal outburst to start the second period enabled them to put some distance between themselves and the Olympians. Hurtado, who had a team-high five goals in the match, accounted for two of those goals in the second period. There were six different players that scored in a seven-goal third period, with Silvestre Chavez (Downey HS) registering two of the team's three goals in the fourth period.

Along with the offensive output from Hurtado, the duo of Chavez and Joshua Lamberton (Glendora HS) each scored four times, with Chavez also assisting on four of the team's goals. Ruben Montoya (California HS) was able to find the open shooters regularly, as he turned in a season-high seven assists, with the goalkeeping duo of Campos and De Luna Pena combining to turn away 12 shots.
