All smiles in the city

The men's soccer team moved above .500 for the first time in program history after a 6-1 win at San Diego City College on Tuesday in San Diego.  The Bobcats used a deep bench in warm weather to wear out the Knights.

Saddleback had its largest margin of victory in the history of the program on Tuesday.  They scored five goals in a game, which was four more than the previous high.  The win put them at 2-1-1 on the season and further increased the confidence level of a program with just three sophomores listed on the roster.

Saddleback took a 2-0 lead in the opening 25 minutes, immediately putting the Knights on the defensive.  Andrew Jun scored his first goal of the season off a pass from Spencer Simis in the 22nd minute to open the scoring.  Three minutes later Joel Smith scored his second goal of the season off a pass from Pedro Castillo and the Bobcats were off and running.

San Diego City scored in the 31st minute to narrow the lead to 2-1, briefly ending the momentum rush for the Bobcats.  Eleven minutes later Sepand Soutehkashan boosted up the morale with his first goal of the season off a pass from Ryan Mann for a 3-1 lead heading into halftime.

Saddleback completely controlled play in the second half, outshooting the Knights 10-5.  The Bobcats connected three more times to add insult to injury.  Bryan Landazuri Carlo scored his first goal of the season in the 49th minute off a pass from Tyler Petersen for a 4-1 lead.  Joel Smith then scored his second of the game and third of the year when he took a penalty kick and scored off the rebound following a keeper save in the 61st minute.  John Paul Bottazzi finished off the scoring in the final minute of play with Juan Ponce getting the assist.

Saddleback outshot San Diego City 19-10 for the game.  Ivan Hernandez played the first 45 minutes in goal for the Bobcats before Nicolas Harrison played the final 45 minutes.

Saddleback will play again next Friday when they host Los Angeles Pierce College.  The kickoff is scheduled for 3:00 PM inside the stadium.
