Men's soccer team scores important win at Southwestern

The Irvine Valley men's soccer team picked up one of its best wins of the season so far on Friday, taking down Southwestern on the road, 3-1.

Irvine Valley moved its record to 2-2-0 overall. The Jaguars went to 2-1-1 overall.

Sophomore defender Lennart Granzow scored two goals off of set pieces and sophomore forward Ivan Lopez contributed one goal and two assists in the IVC victory.

Lopez put IVC ahead in the fifth minute off an assist from sophomore forward Grant Miller.

The Lasers then took a 2-0 lead in the 19th minute when Granzow scored off a pass from Lopez.

Southwestern cut it to a 2-1 game just before the half.

But IVC put the contest away in the 65th minute when Granzow scored again off another assist from Lopez.

Freshman keepers Christoper Arzate and Josh Simonton shared time in goal and each made two saves for IVC.

The Lasers are back in action Tuesday with another big game at Rio Hondo at 6 p.m.
