Comets Edge Out Grossmont in Thrilling Five-Set Showdown

EL CAJON, CA (3/12/2025) -- In a nail-biting five-set battle, the Palomar College men's volleyball team emerged victorious over Grossmont College, winning 3-2 (29-27, 23-25, 20-25, 25-22, 15-13) on Wednesday night. The win marks an important step forward for the Comets as they continue to battle through conference play.

Sophomore outside hitter Tyler Yraceburn delivered a dominant performance, leading the team with 22 kills while posting an impressive .456 hitting percentage. His offensive firepower helped Palomar stay competitive throughout the match.

Supporting Yraceburn, Micah Salas contributed eight kills, while Aidon Gardiner added seven. The duo of setters, Ethan Davis and Jacob Rangel, orchestrated the offense effectively, recording 27 and 13 assists, respectively.

Defensively, Like Pihana and Salas each recorded nine digs, with Noah Frontelara adding six. At the net, Nolan Apodaca was a force with six block assists, followed closely by Gardiner with five. Yraceburn and Rangel each had four block assists, while Frontelara came up big with two solo blocks, and Yraceburn added one.

With the victory, Palomar improves to 4-9 on the season. The Comets will look to build on this momentum when they face San Diego Mesa College on Friday at 6 p.m.
