The MiraCosta College Men's Soccer team continued their strong season with a 2-1 road victory over San Diego Mesa on October 8, 2024. The win boosts MiraCosta's overall record to 6-4-1 and their conference standing to 2-1-1, positioning them well in the race for postseason contention.

MiraCosta wasted no time asserting their dominance, as midfielder Charaboy Inriestra opened the scoring in the 8th minute. A well-placed assist from Steven Renner allowed Inriestra to slot the ball past San Diego Mesa's goalkeeper, Javier Morales, giving MiraCosta the early 1-0 lead.

San Diego Mesa responded 17 minutes later, equalizing the score through a composed finish by Erik Rochin, assisted by Enrique Francis Moran. Despite the quick comeback, MiraCosta remained determined, controlling the tempo of the match and pushing forward to regain the lead.

Just before halftime, MiraCosta's persistence paid off. In the 45th minute, Dominik Wicks capitalized on a defensive error by San Diego Mesa, scoring an unassisted goal that would ultimately seal the game for MiraCosta. Wicks' strike put the Spartans up 2-1 going into the break.

In the second half, both teams battled intensely, but MiraCosta's defense stood strong. In his first start of the year, goalkeeper Arturo Vargas Martinez was instrumental, making three key saves to protect the lead. San Diego Mesa pressed for an equalizer, but Martinez and the defensive unit, anchored by the likes of Leo Ayala and Wicks, kept them at bay.

The win reflects MiraCosta's resilience and ability to close out tight matches, key characteristics that will be crucial as they head into the final stretch of the season.

MiraCosta will next be in action on Friday at home for a 3:30pm kick off at home versus Imperial Valley.
