San Diego City secured its second consecutive PCAC championship by getting a 74-62 road win at Southwestern with sophomore Logan Huston scoring a game-high 24 points. It is also the third time in the last four seasons that the Knights have won the conference title and the 10th time since 2004-05.
Head Coach Mitch Charlens, who joined City in 2004, has been at the helm for nine of those titles. Interim head coach Andy Ground guided the Knights to the 2022 title while Charlens was coaching at USD.
The Knights, who are currently ranked No. 8 in the state, improved to 22-5 overall with Wednesday night's victory at Southwestern and 14-1 in the PCAC.
They have reached the 20-win mark in five straight seasons and in 10 of the last 11.
Southwestern came into the game needing to beat the Knights to have a chance at earning a share of the title, but San Diego City took care of business and will now close the conference season at home against Palomar on Friday at 5 p.m.
Three other starters scored in double figures, including Reid Celestin who put in 14 points. Junior Camach and Marley Gonzalez each added 10 points.
The playoff-bound Knights will now wait to see what seed they will receive for the CCCAA Southern California regional tournament. That announcement is expected to be made by Sunday afternoon.
