After dropping a 16-4 defeat to Saddleback College in its season debut, Citrus College bounced back with a dominating 15-3 victory over Southwestern College in the nightcap on the first day of the Orange Coast College Tournament.

The Owls begin the year at 1-1, while the Bobcats started with a win and the Jaguars open the season 0-2.

In the opener, Andrea Hayler scored three of the Owls' four goals, with the other coming from Charly Figueroa.

While only two Owls scored in the first game, many more got into the scoring action against Southwestern. Delaney Latham and Frankie Pacheco led Citrus with three goals each, while Trinity Hulet rattled in two goals. Rachelle Herrera, Anika Nichols, Figueroa, Arianna Pacheco, Genesis Moradel, Sierra Beltran and Hayler also scored for the Owls.

Citrus came out fired up and scored nine goals in the first quarter alone and jumped out to a 10-0 lead quickly.

The Jaguars broke through in the second and third, but the Owl defense held strong to grab the 15-3 victory.

Citrus looks to build on the offensive dominance in the nightcap as it continues day two of the OCC Tournament on Saturday. The Owls face off against the host Pirates bright and early, with the game set for 8 a.m.
