Jaguars clinch PCAC title

The Southwestern College Jaguars locked down at least a share the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference men's basketball championship on Wednesday night with a 91-39 win over Cuyamaca College.  It was a second straight conference title for the Jaguars.

Southwestern started the season as one of the favorites to capture the PCAC as the conference SID's voted them second to start the season.  The Jaguars didn't disappoint, locking up at least a share of the conference title with two games remaining on the schedule.

Southwestern was dominant on Wednesday night, outscoring Cuyamaca 55-26 in the second half after taking a 19-point lead into the locker room at the half.  Dejon Jackson scored a team-high 19 points while Marquavian Stephens added 18 as the Jaguars outrebounded the Coyotes 47-34 for the night.

Southwestern is now 14-0 in PCAC play and 22-4 overall.  The Jaguars are rated No. 5 in the state in the latest California Community College Men's Basketball Coaches Association poll and have the No. 5 Massey Rating in the state.

For Southwestern, it was the second straight conference title after winning the PCAC South a season ago.  It was the first title for rookie coach Anthony Cosentino, who took over for his father following the 2018-19 campaign.

Southwestern has remaining games against San Diego Mesa (Friday) and Imperial Valley (next Friday) before entering the playoffs the following week.  The Jaguars are led in scoring by Stephens, who averages 19.4 points-per-game.
