SAN DIEGO, CA (1/31/2023) -- Men's basketball is getting turbulent with three weeks to go in the regular season.

In the final week of the first round of conference play, chaos ensued. The undefeated San Diego Miramar College and San Diego City College faced off on Monday and City walked away with sole possession of first place after a 82-60 routing of Miramar. That Wednesday night, Palomar College upset the undefeated City to lock Miramar and City back in a tie. San Diego Mesa College defeated Southwestern College to put Palomar in third place.

The second round opened up with the same results as the first round, but Southwestern narrowly beat Grossmont 90-89 and Miramar completed the sweep of Palomar with an 84-74 win on Friday night.

Through the remainder of the season, certain games will have playoff implications. San Diego City and Southwestern face off Wednesday night, as do Palomar and MiraCosta College. Friday night will have one big game between Southwestern and MiraCosta. The rematch from round one of Southwestern and Palomar will take place on Feb. 8. The last time these two teams met, Southwestern came back to win by one in a 91-90 thriller. The potential game for sole possession of the conference title will be Feb. 10 when Miramar and City face off on Jets turf. We'll see if the Comets can get the Knights again on Feb. 15.
