Miramar claims title with Coach and Player of the Year

SAN DIEGO, CA (2/20/2023) -- After a chaotic conclusion to the 2022-23 men's basketball season, the All-PCAC team has been announced. San Diego Miramar College took home the title with a 15-1 record, their first conference championship in program history. The Jets were led by head coach Nick Gehler, who was named Coach of the Year, and Jakob Milling, the conference Player of the Year. Milling, a sophomore from France, totaled 269 points in the conference this season. He totaled 216 rebounds, 58 assists, 20 blocks and nine steals. He recorded a season-high 25 points, 13 rebounds and three assists against Cuyamaca College on Jan. 20. Miramar also landed sophomores Alex Mirhosseini and Michael Batchelor on the First Team. The trio were the team's leading scorers.

San Diego City College finished in second place after splitting the season with Miramar and Palomar College to go 14-2. The Knights landed Al Green and Anthony Howell on the First Team. Green, a freshman, led the team in points per game, averaging 16.6 in conference play. He totaled 249 points, 80 rebounds, 42 assists, 22 steals and 12 blocks. Howell, a sophomore from Ohio, totaled 160 points, 137 rebounds, 57 assists, 18 steals and 11 blocks through the conference schedule. 

San Diego Mesa College, Southwestern College and Palomar College finished in a three-way tie as the Olympians caused a major shakeup in the second round. They landed one player on the First Team, Daron Traylor. A sophomore guard from Mt. Miguel High, Traylor finished the conference schedule with 345 points, 121 rebounds, 32 assists, 21 steals and four blocks. Damascus Sanders was the lone Southwestern player on the First Team. Sanders posted huge numbers all season, including a 45-point performance against Imperial Valley College in the first round of play. He finished with 381 points, 71 rebounds, 18 assists and 12 steals. Palomar's Andrew Milot and Kryztian Walton and Grossmont's Samuel Stewart rounded out the team. Milot finished with 205 points, 45 rebounds, 61 assists, 27 steals and three blocks. Walton finished 196 points, 133 rebounds, 16 assists, nine steals and 24 blocks. Stewart ended with 227 points, 112 rebounds, 54 assists, 35 steals and nine blocks.
