Grossmont has solid early showing

The swim and dive season is officially under way as three members of the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference competed in the Golden West Invitational this week with another competing at Mt. San Antonio College.  Grossmont College had the best returns at the opening meets of the season.

The swim and dive season kicked into gear, with Grossmont, Southwestern College and Palomar College competing at the Golden West Invitational and San Diego Mesa College competing at the Mt. SAC Invitational.  Grossmont finished fifth in men's swimming at the GWI while San Diego Mesa currently sits in seventh at the Mt. SAC Invitational with one day remaining.

Grossmont was led by a handful of participants at the Golden West Invitational as Emilio Camarillo, Austin Dickman, Benjamin Berk, Garrett Duardo and Thomas O'Carroll all registered points for the team.

Camarillo had a second place finish in the 200 individual medley when he touched the pad in 2:11.71.  It was good enough for 11 team points.  He then finished third in the 50 fly (26.15), picking up another 10 points.

Dickman was another with a great opening day.  He started by finishing fourth in the 100 fly (56.92) before finishing third in the 100 backstroke (59.67) later in the day.

Berk was another with two top-5 finishes.  He finished fourth in the 200 freestyle (1:54.90) and fifth in the 100 freestyle (51.42).

Duardo had two top-10 finishes, starting the day with a sixth place finish in the 50 freestyle (23.44) and finishing the day with an eighth place finish in the 100 freestyle (52.85).

O'Carroll was the last Griffin to earn points, finishing 10th in the 200 individual medley (2:19.55).

Southwestern finished eighth at the Golden West Invitational while Palomar was ninth.
