Grossmont grabs PCAC title

The Grossmont College men's water polo team captured the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference title this week and will look to defend the title at the PCAC Championships next weekend at Southwestern College.  The Griffins are ranked in the top-10 in the state heading down the stretch.

Grossmont cruised through PCAC play this fall, finishing 8-0 and outscoring PCAC opponents 181-82 in the process.  The closest games the Griffins received in Pacific Coast play were eight-point wins over both San Diego Miramar and San Diego Mesa, beating second place Palomar 23-8 and 18-9.

Grossmont had a trio of players with 80-or-more goals during the season.  Cole Kammerer currently leads the Griffins with 88 goals while Brock Kammerer has 87 and Ryan Blevitt 80.  Brock Kammerer also leads the squad with 70 assists on the season with a team-high 16 blocks.

The 2018 regular season title is the first for Grossmont in men's water polo since 2014 when the Griffins went 6-2 in PCAC play and 14-9 overall, losing to Long Beach City in the CCCAA Southern California Regional Playoffs.

Grossmont is currently ranked No. 8 in the state in the KAP7/CCCAA Coaches Poll.   The Griffins are 21-5 overall, with all five losses coming to programs ranked above them in the poll.

Grossmont has a couple of more non-conference games before the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference Championships at Southwestern College on November 2-3.  The Southern California Regional Playoffs are set to start on November 8.
