The San Diego Mesa College men's cross country team successfully defended its Pacific Coast Athletic Conference title with a win at the PCAC Championships on Friday at Morley Field. The Olympians are looking to improve on a third place finish at the CCCAA State Championships last season.
Mesa was a machine on Friday, claiming all of the top six spots at the PCAC Finals. Medhane Woldu led a pack of six Olympians across the finish line, covering the 4-mile trek in 21:17.9. He was followed closely by Isaiah Labra (21:18.2), Bobby Brana (21:18.5), Stefen Rasmuson (21:18.8), Cristian Alcantar (21:27.2) and Esteban Magana (21:34.0). It was the first known time that a program has had a perfect score of 15 in the team competition in PCAC history.
Another program with a fine finish was Cuyamaca College, who finished in second place. The Coyotes finished 9-12-14-15-16 for a team score of 66. Mario Barone was the leader for Cuyamaca, finishing in 22:12.5.
San Diego City finished in third place at the PCAC Finals, led by a pair of top-10 finishers. Anthony Ordonu led the Knights with a seventh place finish, covering the four miles in 21:47.8. Right on his heels in eighth place was Omar Jimenez, who finished in 22:10.2.
The CCCAA Southern California Regional Finals will be held at Mission Bay on November 8.
The top 15 runners at the conference finals are considered All-Pacific Coast Athletic Conference.
