Mesa captures state title

San Diego Mesa College is the state champion for men's cross country after winning the title on Saturday in Fresno, California.  The Olympians outdueled fellow Southern California rival Mt. San Antonio College for a second straight championship in men's cross country.

Mesa was clicking on all cylinders, finishing 4-6-11-13-16 and finishing 16 points ahead of Mt. SAC.  The Olympians were led by Esteban Magana, who finished the 4-mile trek in 20:18.5 to finish fourth overall in individual competition.  Right on his heels was Jonathan Kelly, who finished sixth with a time of 20:22.4.  Rounding out the team score for Mesa was Juan Rosales (12), Jesus Villarreal (16) and Franky Dolores (25).

Magana, Kelly and Rosales all finished in the top 14 in individual competition, qualifying them for the all-state team.

It was a second straight state championship for San Diego Mesa after winning the 2019 state title.
