Comets rolling heading into PCAC play

The Palomar College women's basketball team heads into Pacific Coast Athletic Conference play with a 15-1 overall record and a lofty ranking.  The Comets will be chased by a handful of programs in the PCAC play as the conference schedule kicks into gear this week.

Palomar is currently ranked No. 3 in the state by the California Community College Women's Basketball Coaches Association (CCCWBCA) and its lone loss was against top-ranked Moorpark College.  The Comets have the No. 2 RPI in the state behind San Joaquin Delta College heading into PCAC play.

Palomar has a balanced attack on offense, led by Nikki Mayoral (12.5 ppg), Aaliyah Taylor (10.9 ppg), Taylor Williams (9.8 ppg) and Julie Saelee (8.8 ppg).  The Comets are No. 5 in the state in scoring (79.3 ppg) while boasting the No. 13 defense (54.6 ppg).

Giving chase to Palomar is MiraCosta College, San Diego City College and San Diego Mesa College, who all have records at-or-above .500 for the year.

MiraCosta enters PCAC play at 8-5 overall and has the No. 21 RPI in the state.  The Spartans were ranked just outside the top-20 in the state in the latest CCCWBCA Poll taken in late December.  MiraCosta is led by Chynna Cochran, who currently sits 14th in the state with a 19.2 scoring average.

San Diego City heads into PCAC at 9-7 overall and the No. 65 RPI in the state.  The Knights won five straight games to finish November, proving they have the ability to get hot.  San Diego City is led by Aliyah Milner, who sits 18th in the state with a 18.5 scoring average.

San Diego Mesa enters PCAC play with an 8-8 overall record.  The Olympians have played a rugged schedule so far, dropping four games to programs ranked in the top-20 in the CCCWBCA Rankings.  Mesa has the No. 60 RPI in the state and is led by Breanna Archie, who averages 14 points-per-game.

Pacific Coast Athletic Conference play starts this Friday.
