Comets go undefeated back to back champs; headline All-PCAC team

SAN DIEGO, CA (2/20/2023) -- Palomar College took home the conference title for the second consecutive year and for the second year, they did it undefeated. Head Coach Leigh Marshall collected her sixth Coach of the Year honor en route to the program's 13th conference title. Sophomore Deajanae Harvey was awarded the Player of the Year Award for the second year. The Comets also landed sophomores Camille Sroufe, Faith Schwantner and Kayla Williams on the First Team. Harvey, the programs leading scorer, totaled 281 points, 97 rebounds, 65 assists, 84 steals and four blocks through their conference schedule. Sroufe, now the record holder for most made threes in a game by a Comet, finished with 180 points, 40.1 3-point percentage, 32 rebounds, 17 assists and 17 steals. Schwantner, a defensive mastermind for the Comets, finished with 55 rebounds, 44 assists, 36 steals and 10 blocks. Williams finished with 124 points, 67 rebounds. 16 assists, 19 steals and two blocks. 

Imperial Valley College, San Diego Mesa College and MiraCosta College finished in a 3-way tie for second place. Imperial Valley had a major program turnaround and landed two players on the first team. Monique Carrasco was not only the program leading scorer, she was the state's leading scorer all season. She finished with 226 points, 30 rebounds, 19 assists and 29 steals. Malena Ponchione finished the conference schedule with 138 points, 58 rebounds, 44 assists, 20 steals and one block. Mesa also landed two players on the first team, Gwen Morris-Lundstrom and Niki Madgedi. Morris-Lundstom finished with 134 points, 77 rebounds, 24 assists, 34 steals and three blocks. Madgedi finished with 148 points, 49 rebounds, 20 assists, 17 steals and six blocks. MiraCosta's Deyjanee Williams and Frida Cabellero were also named to the First Team, and Southwestern College's Lynette Garon rounded out the team. Williams finished the conference schedule with 183 points, 99 rebounds, 11 assists and 16 steals. Cabellero ended with 57 points, 4 rebounds, 28 assists, 11 steals and three blocks. Garon finished with 121 points, 56 rebounds, 68 assists, 20 steals and one block.
